When you first wake up in the morning, what's the first thing you do? Is it reach for your mobile to get a dose of what's new? Do you find yourself wanting to check if you've got any notifications or messages? If you do there's a good chance that's a sign of mobile or social media addiction.

Like the smoker lighting up before he even gets out of bed, your habit is filling your brain with photos of cats, peoples Facebook complaints and other useless crap before you've even had a chance to wake up!

Do youself a favour and ditch the phone first thing in the morning. Here's a list of things you can do instead of grabbing your phone.

  • Walk out into the sunlight
  • Slam down a big drink of water
  • Do ten pushups
  • Meditate
  • Think about your day and write a to do list
  • Cuddle with your wife, SO or teddy bear
  • Tai Chi
  • Make a coffee (or better yet a herbal tea)
  • Walk around your garden
  • Go for a walk
  • Have a shower
  • You get the idea

As you can see there's a million other things you can do when you wake up other than grabbing your phone or tablet first thing.

Handy Tip Dont sleep with your phone near your bed. Put it somewhere else in the house and even turn it off setting yourself a time limit before you put it on for the day.
