Here's an interesting article I found on Irish comedian Ari Shaffir on why he ditched his smartphone.
A recent report says that 59% of Brits consider themselves to be hooked to the mobile phones. Now whether or not you would define ‘hooked’ as addicted to social media or addicted to their mobile phones I don't know, but that number is worth thinking about.
If you find it you're getting distracted by your mobile phone and you find it difficult to put down, maybe give this article read.
There’s also a really interesting TED Talk by Ann Makosinski. She's a girl aged 18, who's never owned a mobile device. Imagine that 18 years old and never owned a smartphone.
Now I don’t personally recommend leaving your mobile in the back of a taxi as a great way to give up social media (perhaps try the 30 day challenge) but give it a read and give it a watch and come to your own conclusions.
