Have I missed social media throughout this process?

The answer to that is a resounding NO!

The only thing I’ve missed is some photo’s of a friend's new baby and family photos of my nephew. Other than that, the world has gone on quite adequately without me being on Social Media.

I’ve also stopped looking at the news. This has been wonderful as well. Whilst sometimes it’s nice to sit and read with a morning coffee, it’s even better to just sit and be.

I’ve been reading the River God series by Wilbur Smith lately and the thing that has really struck me about these books that are based in ancient Egypt is how slowly things used to happen for eons and how our world has gotten so damn fast.

I’ve spent a month off social media and news websites and I can only imagine the mind boggling amount of stuff that’s been published to the web in that time.

Kicking this addiction has made me realise that just because it’s posted or added to a feed, the web or my profile doesn’t mean I need to read it or consume it.

Social Media is like being at a party and listening to everyone’s conversation all at once for the entire time - imagine how exhausting that would be?

Me now? I’m more of a ‘few good friends or family around the fire, share a meal and have some laughs’ kind of guy.

And I’m totally ok with that.
