I’ve noticed a change in my thoughts of late. I’ve been thinking a lot about the future. Thinking about the things I would like to do and things I want to achieve.

For example I’ve started getting back into hiking and I’ve found myself thinking about it more. Thinking about my next trip, what I will do differently and where I want to go.

Previously I would have had my head buried in my mobile and probably wouldn’t have done this type of thinking. I would have either not gone hiking at all, or it would have taken me months to plan and execute another trip.

When I look back at my excessive mobile and social media usage it makes me think that it was like I was walking a path through an amazing garden.

Yes there’s lots of interesting things on the path if you focus on that. There’s interesting signs about flowers and people walking past. You might even sit a while in the seats provided and talk pleasantries with someone, but all of that lacks a certain depth and meaning.

It won’t show you how bees, insects and other animals move and live in the gardens or how the change of seasons affects the plants, or how a light sprinkle of summer rain makes the earth smell.

A sign just won’t do these things justice, no matter how good the graphics are.

Social media is where people put up their signs. It’s the marketing messages of the masses telling you only what they want you to hear and only what they’re willing to share through their keyboard.

That’s no real. It has no feeling or depth which is why I think I was feeling so shallow and empty all the time.
